More house-builds were approved by planners last year than for any recent year since 2016.

Full permission was granted for 113 additional homes on 33 sites in the last three months of the year, including 26 at the former Bests Complex in Ruettes Brayes, and outline permission was granted for 85 homes at the Mallard Complex in the Forest.

Deputy Neil Inder, president of the Development & Planning Authority, said his committee was driven to bring confidence back into decision-making and was also looking at initiatives around larger sites, and aiming to do more to accommodate multi-generational living in family homes.

‘Bringing confidence back into decision-making will be key to the authority’s success. That approach is already reaping rewards, and there is more to come,’ he said.

‘We are considering fast-tracking some of the larger sites, and the digital programme remains on track to be delivered by the middle of the year.

‘Something Guernsey residents will be pleased to hear is that the authority is developing plans around the concept of multi-generational living.

‘This will look at what can be permitted for homeowners who wish to care for older relatives or accommodate returning family members.’

Economic Development president Sasha Kazantseva-Miller welcomed 'really promising progress'.
