Community fundraiser held at Styx for cancer patient

The community turned out in force at Styx to help to pay for the cancer treatment of a much-loved local woman.

A fundraising event was held at Styx Centre to raise money for vital cancer treatment for Christine Morgan, who has been diagnosed with metastatic squamous cell carcinoma cancer. The event on Sunday was part of a fundraising effort to cover six months’ worth of Parp Inhibitor treatment – which costs £2,000 a month – for Christine Morgan, who has metastatic squamous cell carcinoma, a type of lung cancer which has now spread around her body.

Having had six rounds of chemotherapy, Parp Inhibitor treatment is now Christine’s only option as immunotherapy is too dangerous for her to have.

Her family were at the event on Sunday.

‘It’s been amazing, we’re so grateful,’ said her daughter Stephanie Morgan.

Sunday’s event was organised by friend Lou Borselli.

‘It’s been so much better than I could ever have expected,’ she said.

‘We’ve had lots of people coming in and all the tables have been filled with some really lovely stuff.

‘There is all the car boot sale stuff and then some small businesses selling their products too, which has been lovely. We were donated some great prizes for the raffle too, so a big thank you to everyone who has donated any prizes and came today – anything helps.’

The fundraising continues on Saturday 28 February with a bumper raffle at Mojitos.

‘Tickets are available online and it is all linked to the JustGiving page,’ said Christine’s granddaughter, Chelsea Hutton.

As of yesterday it had raised more than £4,000.
