Closet sale raises money for three local causes

A group of local fashionistas decided to turn their spring cleaning into a charitable endeavour by hosting a closet sale – a clothing sale where the racks were filled with the pieces they no longer wanted to keep.

The event was held in the Swallow Pavillion above the bathing pools, and the proceeds from it were split among three local charities – the Bathing Pools, Les Bourgs Hospice, and Young Lives vs Cancer.

‘It’s been fantastic so far – we’ve been absolutely mobbed,’ said Wendy Ensink, one of the four women whose former belongings made up the sale.

‘We opened the doors at 8am, and we had people coming at ten to eight.’

Mrs Ensink’s impressive sartorial collection was perhaps to be expected, given her history co-running Escape, a former High Street boutique shop that closed in 2019. At the time of closing, Mrs Ensink had been running the enterprise with partner Ruth Ashdown since 1997, and felt it was time for a change.

Since then, they continued to run a pop-up boutique every so often, hosting their last one in August 2024.

‘I needed to clear out my closet, and I and the other ladies wanted to pass on some of the lovely things we’ve had the privilege to own over the years,’ she said.

The sale ran all day.
