Every year the Guernsey Sports Commission hosts the event in Saumarez Park for people to come and try out new sports.
‘It’s a great opportunity for all members of the community to come and try a new sport,’ said Nicky Will, director of communications at the Sports Commission.
‘This will have been going on in some shape or form for about 10 years now.’
New sports for this years event included tennis and padel, and the Guille-Alles Library was also at the event so children could have a read of a sporty book. The event was expected to attract over 1,000 participants throughout the day.
New cheerleading group Sarnia Legacy were among those at the event. ‘We have the three mats and they each have different tasks, so on one we will teach people how to do straddle jumps and tuck jumps, another is for tumbling, and on the other we will do some stunts,’ said Elouise Le Maitre from the group.
‘We came last year having only set up in August, so it was a great promotion for us.’
Guernsey Dynamics Football – the island's only football team specifically for people with disabilities – were involved for a fourth year.
‘It just gets bigger and better every year,’ said Joe Hind, one of the club’s volunteer coaches.
‘We have some dribbling exercises and another where you have to chip the ball over the first goal and into the second.
‘This is a good opportunity for us to get our name out there.’
