The CI Coop has announced that 10p from every cup sold from its self-service machines will be donated to the local charity.
The drinks are provided by Ground & Co which provides coffee and hot chocolate that are ethically sourced, with its beans supporting the Women in Coffee programme in the Mbozi district of Tanzania.
This gives widows and divorced women independence and economic opportunities through coffee farming.
All of the hot drinks are served in waste-free renewable cups, reducing their environmental impact.
Ground For Good is the name given to the wider charitable partnership through which the Coop will make the donation to the Alzheimer’s Association, making sure the money stays in the island to help fund vital services for people living with the condition and their families who care for them.
CI Coop CEO Mark Cox said it was pleased to be able to combine its new coffee offer with meaningful fundraising for a charity that plays an important role in the island.
‘The work that the Guernsey Alzheimer’s Association does is truly incredible and if we can make even the smallest difference with this initiative, we’ll be very happy,’ he said.
An association spokesman said it was delighted to be chosen by the Coop.
‘This partnership shows a real commitment to our community and means so much to everyone at the Guernsey Alzheimer’s Association,’ he said.
Ground & Co coffee will be available at the self-service machines in the following Coop stores – St Andrew’s, the Halfway, Forest Road, Royal Terrace, L’Aumone, St Martin’s, Longstore and the Market.
