THE parents and friends of Sarah Groves will mark 13 years since her murder on Monday, admitting that time is not proving to be a great healer for them.

The 24-year-old was killed on a houseboat in Kashmir in India on 6 April 2013.

Her friends and family are still waiting for justice.

‘We know that many people here in Guernsey and elsewhere around the world, remember Sarah with much love and affection,’ said Kate and Vic Groves in a statement.

‘In our experience, time is not “the great healer” that anecdotally it is supposed to be. Quite the contrary.

‘The deep love we have for Sarah endures, as does the pervasive heartache that began the moment we lost her. We miss her more and more as time goes by.

‘The light and love that was our darling Sarah shone too brightly to ever be forgotten.’

The family said they were being led to understand that efforts may be made to restart the trial of Dutchman Richard de Wit, who was immediately charged with Sarah’s murder back in 2013.

The trial, dogged by delays and incompetence, has been suspended since July 2021 on the grounds that de Wit has been deemed unfit to stand trial due to the deterioration of his mental health.

He remains in Srinagar Jail as an ‘under-trial prisoner’ and, the couple said, was refusing all medication and medical help.

They added that only four out of 46 witnesses listed for the prosecution remain to give evidence.
