Half of the rock anchors had been installed by the weekend and concreting of one section has started.

Preparations to complete the drilling for rock anchors on both sides are advanced.

La Coupee needs regular maintenance as it is prone to erosion and rock fall.

Chairman of the douzaine Mike Locke said he was pleased with the progress so far.

‘Thanks to advance planning and the assistance of Sark’s Committee Office, Public Works, Sark Shipping, local contractors and, of course, Geomarine, all the equipment and materials were in place ready for the Geomarine rope-technicians to abseil over the sides of La Coupee and get to work,’ he said.

‘The weather has been kind to us so with that, and the commitment of all concerned, we’re on schedule to complete before the season starts in earnest.’

Islanders have been aware of these works since 2025, following major rock fall from the narrow strip connecting Sark and Little Sark. Geomarine said the work was progressing well and was currently on schedule. ‘We have drilled around half of the anchors and have the first of the 3 sections on the West (Guernsey) side ready to start pouring the concrete dentition over the coming days,’ said a spokesman.

‘Over the next week we will continue drilling on the East (Jersey) side and preparing the remaining two sections on the west side for concrete.

‘Our teams will be working over the weekend and we thank both residents and visitors for their co-operation while we carry out the works.’

La Coupee is closed during the day apart from scheduled crossing times and emergency services.

The work is due to be completed by Friday 1 May.
