The programme, established and organised by the French Ministry of Culture, will this year see as many as 2,500 parks and gardens across France and the Channel Islands opened to the public during the first weekend of June in an event intended to showcase the beauty and diversity of gardens.
‘I think it’s a real privilege that we were chosen to be the launch platform for the entire region of Normandy this year,’ said Economic Development Committee president Deputy Sasha Kazantseva-Miller.
‘Guernsey has tremendous horticultural heritage and beauty, as well as an historic connection to our Norman roots.’
The 12 gardens set to be opened around the Bailiwick for the event are the Victorian Walled Kitchen Garden at Saumarez Park, Victor Hugo’s Garden at Hauteville House, Candie Gardens – including a dedicated art, nature and wellbeing trail, the Hidden Gardens of St Pierre du Bois and Forest, the Victorian Walled Garden at Government House, a private garden at Charente, Vale, the Fermain Valley Hotel Garden, La Societe Guernesiaise’s Bridget Ozanne Orchid Fields, the wild subtropical gardens and nature trail at Sausmarez Manor, Bloomin’ Alderney, the Permaculture Garden at Stocks Hotel, Sark, and the gardens at Le Grand Dixcart, Sark.
