Events taking place from today are designed to help visitors to connect with nature and to support wellbeing through art and culture.
Activities across half-term week are intended to complement the current Lost in Nature exhibition, and are described as ‘a programme of events designed for curious minds’.
They include a free guided photography walk in Candie Gardens this afternoon, a Japanese tea ceremony and cherry blossom picnic on Tuesday morning, self-hosted activities around the Lost in Nature exhibition, including a wellbeing walk in Candie Gardens, and a sketch night on Thursday.
The Big Geekend, on 30 and 31 May, returns after a three-year absence, celebrating the joy of shared interests and hobbies, ranging from fossils and archaeology to Sherlock Holmes, K-Pop, cosplay and hands-on crafts.
‘We’re so happy to welcome back The Big Geekend after having a break for a few years. We invite you to bring an open mind to new interests and you never know what you might learn or discover,’ said Miffy Lane, access and learning manager for Guernsey Museums.
‘Whether you love Bridgerton, model building, toy trains, gaming, cosplay or history, The Big Geekend promises a weekend packed with creativity, discovery and fun for all ages.’
Gaming fans can take part in a karting competition in the lecture theatre, younger visitors can follow themed trails around the museum and enjoy a family-friendly film screening.
There will be animated puppets on display and the Priaulx Library law will be transformed into a lively fantasy encampment, also involving a pillow fight.
Visitors can also explore living history displays from the Guernsey Military History Company, meet archaeologists in the archaeology tent and discover Regency-inspired fashion and crafts, including the chance to create a headband inspired by the world of Bridgerton.
Fancy dress and cosplay are encouraged, with visitors who attend in full costume receiving free admission.
Some attractions will take place across both days, while others are scheduled at specific times.
Visitors are encouraged to check the full programme on the museum website ahead of the event. Normal admission charges apply.
