St Saviour’s Church has a dedicated team of busy volunteers

THERE is always something going on at St Saviour’s Church, and behind the events, concerts and services are a team of dedicated volunteers.

They are involved in pretty much everything that goes on within the church, from safeguarding to summer fayres and flowers to the newsletter.

‘Volunteers are vital for the church – it would not function without the support of the community,’ said Clare Glynn-Riley.

There are about 50 regular volunteers who help as much as they can with church events and services. The role of volunteer very much fits with the Christian ethos, but people who do not regularly attend the church are welcome.

‘As Christians it is our job to make Jesus known,’ said Helen Bradshaw.

As well as the regular concerts and sessions the church hosts, it’s biggest event of the year takes place next month.

‘We have more than 100 people involved in the Revel, which is coming up on 4 July,’ said Clare.

The church’s most popular event of the year, the Revel is an afternoon of ‘good old-fashioned fun’ for all the family.

Held on a Saturday afternoon on the ‘Revel Field’ behind the rectory, it sees the whole church family and the wider community come together to raise funds for both the church and local charities. There are stalls, games, cream teas, ice creams, a barbecue, live music, and an enormous raffle with some spectacular prizes. Volunteers are also involved in the church services, including doing readings or preparing coffees for after the service.
