For Armed Forces Week, the charity said it recognises the importance of maintaining a relationship with current serving members of the military.

The commanding officer of 4PWRR is locally born Lt Colonel Andy Carre.

‘As a Guernseyman who has the privilege of currently commanding 4PWRR, it is a professional honour to be able to support the great work the RGLI Trust does,’ he said.

‘I hope our growing relationship with the trust can help support keeping the sacrifice in our island’s history as Guernsey men and women continue the tradition of service across defence, in such challenging times across air sea and land.’

The RGLI and 4PWRR are working together to create opportunities for the battalion to be involved in the work of the charity as part of their ongoing commitment to Guernsey.

Armed Forces Week gives Guernsey residents the opportunity to reflect on the sacrifice of islanders who served and died in conflicts past and present.

The RGLI LBG purchased 16, Le Rue Verte, where many Guernseymen lost their lives during the First World War.

The purchase of the old cottage consolidates the bond between the men of the RGLI and the people of Masnieres and Guernsey.

For the RGLI LBG, the act of remembrance is the foundation of activities and events such as the annual commemoration, student exchange and revived regimental dinner.
