The man behind it is Alex Lock, organiser of the Guernsey Together Festival, who said he was trying to secure licensing, agreements and final permissions from the authorities to stage a free, family-friendly screening from 5.30pm.
He is also planning to stage it again for Sunday’s final, whether or not England get through. Both nights would have a large screen, good sound system, professional security, a licensed bar, food traders and seating areas.
‘England reaching the semi-final is a fantastic moment, and we want to create a safe, welcoming and enjoyable place where islanders can come together and experience the atmosphere of the match,’ said Mr Lock.
‘Crown Pier provides a brilliant setting for an event like this.’
To help control capacity and accurately monitor attendance, everyone attending will be required to claim a free entry pass in advance. They are available from www.owlevents.gg.
Mr Lock said he was working with Guernsey Ports, police, Home Affairs, Traffic & Highways, Environmental Health and other relevant authorities ‘to ensure the event is properly planned and safely managed’.
England beat Norway 2-1 after extra time on Saturday night in a match that finished shortly before closing time in town pubs to qualify to meet Argentina at 8pm on Wednesday.
