Now in its 55th year, the fundraising event will once again treat islanders to a day full of donkey racing. In addition to the much-loved main event, attendees will be able to enjoy various family-friendly attractions, food and craft stalls and, for the first time, live music.
‘We’re hoping it will provide a bit more variety to the entertainment across the day,’ said Paul Allaway, president of the Lions Club of Guernsey. ‘It’ll all be local bands and they’ll be in the beer tent until about 7.30pm.’
Attendees can look forward to hearing sets from Rumpus, Scrumpy ‘n’ Western, Nexus and Loz & The Light Years.
‘Our true goal is to bring the community together for a proper Guernsey summer park day: full of laughter, fun for all the family and raising funds for the wide range of charitable work the Lions Club of Guernsey supports,’ said Mr Allaway.
The Lions Club, which is run entirely by volunteers, supports a wide range of initiatives across the island in efforts to make a positive impact within the local community.
Through this year’s Donkey Derby, it hopes to raise funds for Guernsey Dairy’s Milk for Schools project, the purchasing of a new ‘meals on wheels’ van for the Guernsey Volunteer Service, and to bring Healing Waves to the island, an ocean therapy initiative for individuals with disabilities.
The event starts at midday. Entry is free, with parking available for £5 per car.
