Lisia Dance Company is intended for current and former local dance students to come together for professional performances for local audiences.
The first performance will take place on Thursday 30 July, with auditions this coming Monday.
The company has been set up by Megan Davies, Jess Lewis and Hannah Langlois, who all danced together at Gate growing up.
‘We’ve all come back to adult ballet together, and it’s from there that we decided we wanted to carry on,’ said Megan.
‘It’s great going to classes but the performing is such an amazing part of it and we all miss that.’
They said that local dance schools run adult classes, but it is usually a once-a-week session.
‘It’s enough to keep you going and keep up your skills, there are things like Gadoc but in ballet and contemporary there’s nothing that is equivalent,’ said Jess.
The group was inspired by Ballet d’Jerri, which has been established as Jersey’s national ballet.
When the Jersey dancers visit Guernsey, performances are often sold out.
‘For anyone who does go away and train professionally, if they want to come back, there aren’t any career opportunities here,' said Hannah. ‘They’d have to move to the UK, so it will be lovely to still be able to perform over here.'
‘The Performing Arts Centre is supporting us through this.
'Our first performance is a one-night show.
‘It’s very much intended to be a collaborative piece and we want the members to be involved in creation.'
