The open air screenings have been running every evening this week, with the final film due to be shown on Sunday.
‘It’s the highlight of our summer calendar,’ said Helen Glencross, head of Culture and Heritage Services for the States.
‘The idea for the cinema stemmed from a desire to use our historic sites.
‘We wanted people to be able to experience the castle in a different way, to make it an interesting and exciting place to be and to bring a different audience in that might not otherwise come to visit the castle.
‘But it also provides some really nice entertainment too.
‘It’s a casual evening in a scenic location. People really enjoy it and we get really good feedback every year.’
Organised in collaboration with Beau Sejour, which selects the films to be shown, each evening includes a 5pm family-friendly screening followed by a film for older viewers.
‘It’s typically a cult classic, something everyone will know,’ said Mrs Glencross.
Last year’s event featured 20 films shown over 10 days but an extra day has been added this year.
The 11th day this Sunday will include a surprise short film produced by local filmmakers before a screening of Captain Hook: The Cursed Tides (2025), which will be followed by a Q&A session with director Lars Janssen.
Attendees are invited to bring along a picnic to eat as they watch, as well as a chair or blanket to sit on. They are also advised to bring an extra layer of clothing, particularly if staying for a later-evening viewing.
