The club reported that the vandalism had occurred between about 4pm and 6.15pm on Tuesday, with brand new nets on its 3G training pitch being cut and what looked like coloured paint used to spray the goal posts and foul language on the pitch.
In the wake of the damage the club obtained a CCTV image of a group of six boys on bikes leaving the scene and posted it on the club’s Bels Live Entertainment Facebook page, threatening to tell the police unless the culprits came forward.
Club committee member Damian Le Tocq said that he thought all of the youths were aged 15.
Two of them later made contact to apologise for their actions while another two went to the pitch to clean up the mess, he said. ‘They said it was “only” coloured hairspray,’ he said. ‘That’s as maybe but there were offensive words written on advertising boards as well, about [coach] Ryan Zico Black.’
He told the boys that they needed to contact Mr Black to apologise.
The coach and some of his team had also worked to clean up the mess and as of yesterday all that remained was the damage to the goal nets.
‘I’ll be looking to speak to the boys’ parents about this,’ said Mr Le Tocq.
Since the boys had apologised and made efforts to clean up the mess the club decided not to involve the police.
‘We hope this can be a positive learning experience for those involved and that we can move forward from what happened,’ said the club on its Facebook page and it thanked everyone who had shown their support after learning about the damage.
The club stressed that it was not a venue for people to just ‘hang around’ or congregate and that its facilities were for club members or those using the on-site businesses Karting Guernsey and Zico Football Coaching.
