Alain and Jade, a couple for the past three years, had engaged photographer Ben Fiore to work with them on what Jade at least thought were just special eclipse photographs at Lihou headland, which had been the setting for some of their first dates.
She had no idea that a proposal would be coming, and described it as ‘the best surprise to an already perfect day’.
Alain and Mr Fiore had spent five days working out the details, making sure the location, timing and photography came together perfectly.
Alain admitted afterwards that he had been nervous, but once his bride-to-be had accepted, those nerves were replaced by pure excitement that the plan had actually worked out.
Mr Fiore said it was an opportunity to combine the Guernsey landscape, a rare astronomical event and a genuine once-in-a-lifetime moment in a single set of photographs.
‘I’m always looking to photograph something different and push what’s possible creatively,’ he said.
‘Whether it’s a portrait, proposal, wedding or a completely crazy idea, I’m always up for trying to turn it into an image people will remember.’
