In the early hours through to 9am the island received a drenching from 8.9mm of rain, the most seen on any one day since heavy rain was experienced on Monday 1 June.

The last day to be officially recorded as ‘wet’ by Guernsey Met was Thursday 16 July, when there was 4.7mm of rain, and the last day with anything more than a trace was two weeks ago, when there was 0.4mm barely felt on Tuesday 4 August.

To date August has seen just 9.2mm of rain and since 8 June, a cloudy and drizzly day, the island has experienced just 16.5mm in total, when the average for July alone over the past 30 years would be 43.2mm.
