Thousands turned up at L’Eree on Wednesday and Thursday.
‘We don’t know the exact amount just yet. We’ll do a wash-up of official numbers later on. But walking around, it certainly looked fuller,’ said Andre Mayor, show president and manager.
‘It’s been amazing this year. We’ve had really positive feedback, and not just from the attendees but also our visiting acts like Big Pete [monster truck team]. They keep saying how much they all love this show and can’t believe how friendly Guernsey is and how well they’ve been looked after by everybody.’
Mr Mayor said that the addition of a Norman market for the first time also proved popular. It has now moved to the Crown Pier until Sunday lunchtime.
He was also pleased to see the return of a funfair for the first time since Covid. He said he was surprised that it was not just young people who were pleased to see it.
‘I came across an 80-year-old lady at one point who turned to me and said: “It’s great to see the funfair back. I love it”.’
The highlight for Mr Mayor himself however, was getting to take a turn in Big Pete’s monster truck.
‘It was amazing. I mean, it was also brutal, and I’m paying for it now with the whiplash, but it was amazing.’
He welcomed a rare splash of rain during the set up for the two days of the show too.
‘The rain was actually perfect. During set-up, the dust was unbelievable from all the hot weather. Having that rain in the morning settled it all and meant we didn’t have any for the actual event.’
