This endurance challenge saw players of all ages take to the Footes Lane pitch for 24 hours of continuous hockey, even in the early hours of the morning.
‘Help for Heroes has done endurance events before and we were thinking what we could do, so we planned to do a 24-hour tournament which started at 6pm on Friday,’ said Ali Le Tocq from Guernsey Hockey.
‘The veterans started and we had two 88-year-olds start with a bully off.
‘We tried to involve the minis as well so our youngest player was eight.’
There were students playing overnight, and Orla Curran was the only player on the pitch at one point to keep 24 hours of continuous hockey going.
‘She was amazing. She played 3.30am until 6am so we didn’t break at all,’ said Ms Le Tocq.
Even as the challenge neared its end on Saturday evening there were many people present to watch the final game.
‘I think we have been pleasantly surprised by how much of a community event it has been,’ said Ms Le Tocq.
Help for Heroes is a British charity which supports military personnel with their physical and mental health, as well as their financial, social and welfare needs.
‘Its focus is to provide 24-hour care to those who need it and help veterans reintegrate into society,’ said Peter James Moralee, who was part of the Hockey for Heroes team.
