The teenager has been completing 30 triathlons over 30 days in memory of his stepfather, Tom Harvey, and to raise funds for Les Bourgs Hospice, where he stayed during the final two weeks of his life.
Now nearing the end of his mega-challenge, Rory has not missed a single day and credits lots of rest and regular Epsom baths as key in keeping him going.
Not even an ear infection could convince him to take a day off, although it did mean that he had to make a slight change to the challenge’s proceedings during its third week.
‘I couldn’t swim so I moved things around to make up for it,’ he explained. ‘I increased the 3km bike ride to 5km, and the 2km run to 3km.’
But now fully recovered, he is back in the pool for his final week of triathlons.
‘I’m excited now it’s getting close to the end. It’s been quite tough.’
He is due to cross the finish line for the last time tomorrow and has already smashed his fundraising target of £1,000 to reach just less than £6,000.
‘It feels really good that we’ve raised that much,’ he said.
‘Mum has helped to raise awareness over social media. Without her, I don’t think we’d have done it.’
Rory intends to celebrate completing his challenge with lots of sleep before the new school year starts, and perhaps a new pair of trainers to replace the well-worn pair he has been using to complete his challenge.
