Work has been going on all summer to create the new physical pavement, which includes an informal crossing point at the junction with Ruette des Delisles, and replaces the painted pavement that previously stretched along the western side of the road.
The lack of official pavement has long been a source of concern for the local community due to safety concerns around the number of children that use it to travel to and from nearby schools.
‘Students at Les Beaucamps High School and Castel Primary School can now make use of a new pavement along Les Beaucamps, making school journeys, as well as those to and from Castel Douzaine Room, safer and more accessible while walking,’ said Traffic & Highway Services.
The pavement work was timed to coincide with planned resurfacing along the road, making efficient use of the contractors already due to be on site and limiting the length of the road closure.
The dual project fell under Traffic & Highway Services’ objectives to both improve the island’s road infrastructure and prioritise active travel.
