The walkway which leads to the historic site closed on Monday as the reconstruction project moved into its main construction phase.

Geomarine started demolition work yesterday, using a 48-ton excavator with a long reach to break up the bridge in sections ahead of the rebuild.

There will be no public access to Castle Cornet, the breakwater or the lighthouse while the work is carried out, which is expected to finish in late May 2027.

Revised traffic and parking arrangements around the Castle Emplacement have also come into effect, though businesses will remain open and accessible.
