An umbrella body of several unions said yesterday that it would give the senior committee only two more weeks to set up negotiations about a pay award for 2026.
The Negotiating Committee for Teachers and Lecturers in Guernsey (NCTLG) warned that it would be forced to escalate its request if P&R continued to delay.
‘NCTLG met yesterday afternoon and resolved to write to P&R again requesting dates for negotiations on the 2026 pay award,’ said Wayne Bates, national negotiating official at the NASUWT, one of the unions in the umbrella group.
‘We have given them until 24 September to provide dates, otherwise we will lodge a formal dispute with the industrial disputes officer.’
P&R is also under pressure to get on with pay talks for 2027, with thousands of States employees due to come to the end of their current deal at the end of this year.
The senior committee acknowledged earlier this week that it had not yet discussed its approach to pay talks for 2027, despite previously saying it expected them to start in April and then in July.
It said it was ‘due shortly to consider our approach’, which it will need to formulate against the backdrop of a States direction to cut spending by 1% in real terms in each of 2027, 2028 and 2029.
P&R has also resisted public calls from unions for political members to get more involved in pay talks, and backed its officials to lead negotiations, although it said it would ‘consider’ any ‘formal representation’ received for deputies to attend.
