The Association of Guernsey Charities’ Charity Sector Forum for Children, Young People and Families takes place on 24 September, aiming to strengthen collaboration and share perspectives on emerging policy.
A key focus will be updates on the States’ Children and Families Framework, one of the super priorities within the current Government Work Plan, along with discussion of the draft Children and Young People’s Plan 2027-2029.
‘From an Association of Guernsey Charities perspective, this is our latest charity sector forum in partnership with the States,’ said AGC chairman Wayne Bulpitt.
‘Charities have a unique understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing children, young people and families, and this forum provides an important opportunity to share learning, strengthen relationships and help shape a more joined-up approach across the Bailiwick.’
Participants will be able to feed back on the emerging plan, which now extends to young people up to the age of 25, recognising the importance of supporting young adults through the transition into adulthood.
People working across youth work, mental health, disability and family support will attend, giving charities the chance to connect with key stakeholders and contribute to future policy.
‘For us this is an important opportunity to speak to the people who are working in these areas and making a real difference, and looking at how we can best support them,’ said Deputy Lindsay de Sausmarez, president of Policy & Resources.
‘We think it’s really important that young people are at the heart of what we do, and we benefit enormously from hearing from people with practical experience. I cannot stress how useful it is to us.’
The forum will also raise awareness of forthcoming Children Law amendments, cover young people’s mental wellbeing, and include an open conversation on issues affecting children, young people and families across the island.
