I am writing this letter to thank Guernsey for such a wonderful Liberation Day. Only Guernsey could put on a show like that. From the parade in the morning with the Lt-Governor and Princess Anne inspecting the troops. The astounding fly-past of all the aircraft. The magic of the royal standard going up on the flagpole. The church bells ringing and the 21-gun salute. Then the massive parade and cavalcade. The happy cheers from people young and old. The stalls and music on North Beach. The fairground rides and bouncy castles. From the landings, the tea tents and static display and Princess Anne talking to people at L’Eree.
The bunting in Town, the flags that people so tirelessly made for the Bridge and Town and the flagpole. Then the magic of the drone display and fireworks. What memories we all have of a wonderful 80 years of freedom.
Thank you Guernsey, you all did us proud. Hopefully we will do this again for the 90th.
