Congratulations to both the existing and new deputies who have been re-elected or elected to the States for the forthcoming session. Commiserations, too, for those who failed to make it over the line, but all credit to them for being prepared to make their opinions known and to submit to the pressures of an election campaign.
I was considerably heartened to read of the mood of consensus which appears to be prevalent amongst the new and current deputies: it was this lack of consensus which, I believe, resulted in many voters failing to register on the electoral role, having been deterred by the sometimes chaotic process in States debates. There was a very obvious lack of respect amongst deputies, with opinions becoming personal rather than political.
We now hope for a governing body which can conduct debates in an orderly and respectful manner, whatever the personal opinion of the individual deputies may be.
