At the moment there seems to be a small but growing ‘feel-good’ factor happening in Guernsey where the public are asking for small changes, like save the diving platform and the Water Lanes so that we can preserve the Guernsey that we regard as special.
To this list I would like to add another small thing. I first put this suggestion on GPHYS and it received a very favourable response. Keep all the new parking charges we have at the airport but please give us back our one hour free. The half hour is too short because of long baggage delays and Aurigny’s present issues. One comment on the site I mentioned was that any extra revenue gained by the new charge was probably lost by the people that used to use the free one hour and take themselves and their children to use the cafe and shop while waiting for people to arrive.
However, my reason is simply this – there is nothing that can warm the heart like seeing the smile on the face of the person you are waiting for as they come through arrivals or that hug from a loved one you have waited so long to see.
We don’t have to follow the UK with their airport charges – after all we are ‘the friendly isle’!
