Community is so important and those who give their time quietly to make our parishes the best that they can be, should be applauded.
They are a caring bunch of people, their time given with a good heart.
It’s not all about hedge and stream inspections, but also making sure, for example, that; parish cemeteries are always well kept, and burials recorded. That mooring allocations around the bays are made available and recorded. Parish halls are maintained and available for functions. Waste is collected seamlessly (9/10!). Floral displays are in place. Parish land and buildings, along with our ancient churches, are maintained.
Liquor licence inspections are carried out and building applications considered.
Parish events are organised and polling stations staffed and a great deal more.
It is very much a team effort, part of Guernsey tradition, people giving their time to help others, with a quiet sense of pride, that they have done something to help others in their community. It is always good to give something back, as part of a team.
Nominations to join a douzaine are open until Friday 24 October in most parishes.
Parish meetings to elect representatives are on 4 November.
