Guernsey are first team into EH Men's Trophy quarter-finals
HAVING come through a penalty shootout to reach the Now Pensions EH Trophy quarter-finals, Guernsey's player-coach believes it could be a good omen for his side.
'The year we won the competition, in our very first game we won on a golden goal with the opposition having hit the post just a couple of minutes earlier, so I am hoping it is good for us to have had a really tight game now,' said Andy Whalley.
'You want to play in tough, competitive games, that's why we enter the competition.'
Playing away to East Premier B outfit Letchworth in the third round on Sunday, Guernsey were excellent in the opening 35 minutes and led at the interval through Adam Le Page's goal.
Letchworth changed their style in the second half and scored a deserved equaliser to take the tie into a penalty shootout, which Guernsey won 3-0 thanks to successful strokes from Zak Damarell, Ben Cormack and Le Page.
Guernsey now have to wait until Monday 10 February for the quarter-final draw.
