Guernsey FA Cup final now pencilled in for 24 May

TRADITIONALLY completed by late-April, the local football season will now finish the same day in May as its elite European counterparts – at the earliest.

With the wet weather decimating the GFA fixture schedule throughout January and now February, the end date for this 2013-14 campaign has been pushed back and back.

As fixtures secretary Garry Cortez suggested recently, the cup competitions have now been moved beyond the end of the league campaigns and also beyond the Muratti final.

Indeed, as it stands, the Guernsey FA Cup final will now be played on the afternoon of Saturday 24 May, a week after the 'proper' FA Cup final at Wembley and the same day as the Uefa Champions League final.

Considering last year's final between Bels and North was itself belatedly held on 28 April, it shows the delays that have been caused by the weather and any further postponements could still feasibly push the season into June.
