Duff wins pro debut bout
AFTER a comfortable – albeit bruising – debut win, Tom Duff has set his sights on stepping up to a six-round fight next time he steps into the boxing ring.
The 35-year-old Guernseyman made his bow in the professional ranks last weekend, winning every round in beating journeyman Steve Spence 40-36 on the scorecard in Bath.
However, it was not quite a perfect night for the local crowd favourite, as he has a badly bruised eye and required stitches to the side of his head after a series of blows from Spence's head.
Duff must now wait a mandatory 28 days to fight again and only after being signed off as fit by a doctor, under British Boxing Board of Control rules, with his second fight most likely to be not until the end of June.
'Like my coach said, it was a case of welcome to the pro game and that kind of thing will happen. Beforehand, it was a case of seeing whether I could do it and now I have proven that I can, so it has filled me with confidence and hopefully I can kick on when I next fight, which could be over six rounds.
'I was also delighted with the amount of support I had because there were around 70 local people there and it was great to see.'
