'The Lane' gets the nod to host Muratti

THIS season's Muratti Vase final will leave its traditional home at the Track and return to Footes Lane for the first time in eight years.

And while the decision is only currently for the 2015 match on Saturday 16 May, the GFA admit there 'is every chance' Footes Lane could become its permanent home.

Footes Lane last held the showpiece Guernsey v. Jersey match back in 2007 – its third in a row – but it was then decided to shift back to the famous old Cycling Grounds.

Now, though, the GFA have decided to revert back to the home of Guernsey FC and help to give the Sarnians the best chance of maintaining their recent dominance of the fixture.

GFA chief executive officer Gary Roberts, one of the men at the GFA board behind the move, said: 'After discussing the merits of both grounds, we decided that Footes Lane is the best equipped and the best venue to host the Muratti.'

'There is a lot of tradition at the Track and, rest assured, it wasn't a decision we took lightly. But everything was in favour of holding it at Footes Lane.'
