Guernsey looking to make history with title defence
GUERNSEY can make history at Olympic Park tomorrow as they look to retain the EH Trophy.
It will be the island side's fifth final in seven years and their fourth in a row, but the two-time winners have never successfully defended the national knockout silverware.
That is something they will attempt to change against Sheffield University Bankers at the Lee Valley Hockey & Tennis Centre in east London.
'The previous time we won it in 2009, we bombed out in the first round the following season, so to be back in the final as holders this time is a real privilege,' said player-coach Andy Whalley.
'I have just got to try to keep the guys' feet on the ground and play like we did in the semi-final because although we only scored a couple of goals in that game, you could not fault the discipline, commitment and work-rate that the guys put in.'
Guernsey v. Sheffield University Bankers in the EH Trophy final starts at 1.30pm tomorrow at Olympic Park.
Guernsey squad:
Jake Le Marchant, Andy Dawson-Ball, Tristan Cairns, Adie Peacegood (captain), Ben Cormack, Andy Le Page, Andy Alford, Adam Cox, Alex Setters, Matt Stokes, Andy Whalley (player-coach), Zak Damarell, Josh Kendal, Steve Waldrom, Matt Bain.
