St Jacques staying in Solent Merit League

ST JACQUES face a second season in the Hampshire Solent League as they have to prove their sustainability.

The KGV-based club went through their inaugural campaign unbeaten to win the league against established clubs' second teams, but the Hampshire RFU were not prepared to elevate Saints into the Hants league proper after just one season.

The Solent League has been restructured this season with only eight teams in the league, in the most part with the strongest teams remaining, and a couple of new teams added.

'As much as we wanted to progress, remaining in the Solent League is not necessarily a bad thing for us as although last season was a successful season for us on the pitch, we learnt many lessons about running a UK-playing rugby club both on and off the pitch,' Mroch said.

Meanwhile, centre Airy Cleere has been voted St Jacques players' player of the year for 2014-15 while there were also individual awards for Conor Murtagh and Tom Chammings at the club's presentations.
