Mahon is back for Guernsey FC after long lay-off
AFTER an injury lay-off of nearly two-and-a-half years, Kieran Mahon could play for Guernsey FC today in a long-awaited comeback appearance at Hythe Town.
And after recovering successfully from two serious shoulder injuries, manager Tony Vance has backed the midfielder to become an integral part of his Green Lions team once again.
It was March 2015 when Mahon made the most recent of his 95 appearances, but a persistent shoulder injury eventually required major surgery.
Now healed, Vance is delighted to name him in a 16-man squad that is missing Ross Allen and Dave Rihoy, but does also include Dom Heaume again.
‘Kez is somebody who looks after himself well and although his match fitness naturally won’t be there just yet, it will build up over the next few weeks,’ said Vance.
‘Having him back is a big positive because he is a player that offers us so much and is a proven quality performer at this level – I am positive he will become a big player for us again.
‘There will certainly be other midfielders in our squad who know they will have to perform to try and rip a shirt off him when he gets it back.’
