The Island all-rounder has been named as the Guernsey Evening League champions’ captain for their foray into the European Cricket League, with regular skipper Tom Kirk unavailable for the the tournament.

Adam Martel and Jason Martin will be vice-captains for the T10 event at the Cartama Oval in Malaga, with Griffins drawn in Group B which will take place from 14-18 February.

In total, 30 clubs will be taking part, split into five groups of six with the group winners progressing to finals week from 14-18 March.

‘I’m absolutely delighted with the squad we’ve assembled and pleased that so many of the lads who got us into this position are able to enjoy the rewards for our superb 2021 season,’ said Griffins team manager Rob Thomson.

‘TK is obviously the stand out absentee and is a huge miss for us – I’m gutted for him that he can’t be part of the trip.

‘Luer’s commitment, dedication and growing maturity made him the obvious candidate to fill TK’s rather large shoes, and it’s also appropriate reward for him after his successes in 2021.’

Spanish border rules dictate that only fully-vaccinated players can attend, which has ruled out a couple of Griffins, but Thomson does not expect the pandemic to impact on the tournament otherwise.

‘Flights are booked, hotel rooms are allocated and the ECL have been working tirelessly alongside the 30 club managers to get everything ready,’ he said.

‘Ultimately we’re just desperate to get on the plane.’

Canaccord Griffins squad: Luke Bichard, Ben Fitchet, David Hooper, Dan Le Messurier, Glenn Le Tissier, Luke Le Tissier (captain), Adam Martel, Jordon Martel, Jason Martin, Dane Mullen, Adam Wakeford, Damian Wallen.
