Even with Commonwealth Games hopeful Billy Le Poullain sitting out to prepare for his upcoming England debut, Guernsey Amalgamated Boxing Club head coach Ben Duff has welcomed a ‘fantastic line-up’ for the 11-bout show against East Wales.

This includes a welcome headline opportunity for de la Mare, who faces Jamie Way at cruiserweight.

Way packs a wealth of experience, having fought at international level with 11 pro bouts and around 70 in the amateurs, and will certainly be no pushover for the Guernsey fans’ favourite.

‘I’m expecting this bout to be a good clash of styles and a closely-fought contest,’ Duff said. ‘Jamie is a bit older at the age of 39, but will have the ring experience and know all the tricks to cause Casey problems. Casey will have to use his youth advantage and counter-punching abilities to try and win the bout.’

Tommy Teers and Marcus Magloire also feature on the business end of the programme, both fighting for the third time this month.

Both boxed against London in Jersey last weekend and Teers – the England development finalist – lost on points, but Magloire won the decision.

‘Tommy is looking to rebound from last Saturday and is eager to get back to winning ways,’ the head coach added.

Another eye-catching fight sees Ruslan Gogercaks returning to the ring in great shape after injury and the lockdown break.

Among the younger fighters, Ethan Le Moignan will look to make it three from three in his promising start to the amateurs, while the ever-improving Ross Vining eyes his second contest. Thirteen-year-old Railee Bamford and 10-year-old Liam Duff are both debuting.

Action will take place in the David Ferguson Hall from 5.30pm.

n Fellow Commonwealth Games man Stephen Newns has been named as Le Poullain’s opponent at the England versus Scotland show on Friday 4 March, with the Guernseyman dropping down to the 72kg weight class.
