Speaking on the day the Green Lions announced three pre-season games, starting at Footes Lane next weekend, the long-serving manager spoke openly about the widely circulating rumours of GFC players being contracted in the future.

‘It is something we are looking at, but not in the form of a contract,' he said.

'But ultimately what I want to see happen is the players remunerated for the time they are putting in.

‘The challenge is finding the money because it is a tough world out there.’

As for pre-season, first up are Stansfield, who play in the Southern Counties East Division One at step five, closely followed by a trip to the Isle of Man for the Skipton Cup and then, a week after, Hartley Wintney of the Southern League Premier back at ‘The Lane’.

‘Firstly, it is great we have got these fixtures because it is always a problem for us,’ said Vance.

‘And it is in stark contrast to last year when we had no pre season and then we suddenly started the league in October after about a week’s

notice.

‘Stanfield probably comes a little too early for us due to holidays, Covid, and players still needing to rest.

'But ultimately it is a great opportunity for us to prepare for a new season in the right way.

‘We want to be in a position that when the season starts, one, we are not playing catch-up, and, two, it is as level a playing field it can be for a Guernsey club situation.

'Then we can go forward and attack the league.’
