In a quality game in the sweltering sunshine at the KGV that went down to the last over, both Luke Le Tissier and Adam Martel made centuries for the holders as Griffins racked up 272 for 4 from their 50 overs.

Cobo were always in with a chance in their run chase, with captain Josh Butler making 68, but they lost wickets at crucial times and ended up falling 11 short.

‘We did really well – their side on paper was unbelievable today, we thought get runs on the board and anything could happen and it did,’ said player-of-the-match Le Tissier, who top-scored with 122 before taking a couple of wickets in the Cobo reply.

‘A hot day, very hot, it was hard work, but good to get over the line.’

As for his personal contribution with the bat, Le Tissier said it was good to return to top form with the 50-over inter-insular looming.

‘I thought I was under-par in Finland a couple of weeks ago so to come here on a grass wicket against decent bowlers as well like Peatfield, Le Gallez, Veillard, Ravenscroft – I felt really good, I was happy,’ said the all-rounder, whose runs virtually all came via conventional shots as his trademark reverses did not come off.

‘I kept missing a few [reverses] so I put them away in the end.

‘It felt good. Hopefully I can feel as good again in the inter-insular if selected.’
