'A chance to put things right' for Rovers

ROVERS boss Kevin Gillease says three points this weekend would be ‘massively important’ for his team as they look to bounce back from a defeat to St Martin’s last Saturday.

The Port Soif club currently sit fourth in the Priaulx League table, four points behind leaders Vale Rec, and have picked up nine points from their first five games.

They make the trip to KGV this weekend to play the in-form Rangers, who are level on points with Rovers after back-to-back wins in the division against Bels and Sylvans.

‘Obviously last week did not go to plan and we lost the game, which was disappointing,’ said Gillease.

‘We controlled the game against Saints but we could not score and then conceded a goal we should not have conceded – we should have won the game.

‘The lads were so frustrated, but we have a chance to put things right this weekend.

‘It is going to be very tough against Rangers as they have won a few on the bounce, but as always we’re focusing on ourselves.

‘We need to get things right because it’s just not been happening in front of goal.’

The defending champions were victorious in their first two Priaulx encounters, but they come into the clash with just one win from their last three and just two goals scored, both by Luke Ogier, in their past five outings.

‘It is still early in the season, but we need to get three points,’ Gillease said.

‘We have lost two games already and last season we only lost two games the entire season, so it’s clear that something is not clicking.

‘We want to get back up the table so we need to put together a little run and find some momentum.’

Gillease confirmed that both Luke Ogier and Robbie Legg were back available for selection for this weekend’s clash, which is almost certain to switch to the KGV 3G and kick off at 1pm.

‘The squad is looking good right now, and it’s nice having some lads back to strengthen the ranks a bit,’ he said.

In the other league game this weekend, Vale Rec are set to welcome Bels to the Corbet Field.

Mark Romeril’s team come into the clash off the back of a 1-1 draw in Alderney last weekend.

A win tomorrow, should the game go ahead, could put them four points clear, as St Martin’s are not in action.

Bels currently sit seventh in the table, and have been beaten four times in a row, most recently away at Rangers.
