Coach Cayden Tardif said it was incredible to see them lift the trophy after an eventful age-group Muratti contest.

‘It’s everything I have wanted all season, they are an incredible group and really deserved to win,’ he said.

They triumphed 4-2 after extra time at Springfield on Sunday, but had to come from behind to do so, as it was Jersey who opened the scoring.

‘It shocked me, to be honest, but we were poor in the first 20 minutes and then their goal woke us up, and from that point we dominated in normal time,’ said Tardif.

Guernsey captain Aston Young equalised after converting a penalty that he had won.

The Greens then took the lead through Theo Cooper in the second half before Jersey equalised in the closing stages, sending the match into extra time.

‘It was a fairly late equaliser and there were some nerves going into extra time, but Jersey made a change just before and I looked at and thought, “what are they doing?”, because they took off one of their stronger players who was having a fair bit of joy,’ said Tardif.

‘We dominated in extra time.’

In the first 10 minute half of the added period, Young made it 3-2 with an exquisite lobbed finish, and Jake Martin made it 4-2 with another great goal to seal the Sarnian success in the second half of extra time.

‘Collectively we did really well, it was a real team performance and everyone played really well and deserved the win,’ said the coach.
