GFC told ‘beware of new manager bounce’

GUERNSEY FC have the chance to get their first away win of the season tomorrow afternoon as they make the trip over to the mainland for the final time in 2023 to play Binfield FC.

The Green Lions’ opponents sit rock bottom of the Isthmian South Central Division table and are yet to pick up a victory this season.

However, a change in personnel in the home dugout this week means Tony Vance’s men may face an improved version of their side this weekend.

‘As our luck would have it, their manager got sacked this week and that always seems to happen with teams before playing us, so they’ll have that new manager bounce and probably a few new players, too,’ said the GFC boss.

‘That means that we can scrap the fact that they are bottom of the league, because it is a different ball game now.’

Guernsey also currently occupy one of the automatic relegation spots in the division, but three points tomorrow could see them rise above both Corinthian-Casuals and Met Police, depending on their results.

‘It is an important game and we’d love to pick up a win, and the fact that they have sacked their manager this week coming into the match shows what they are thinking about it,’ said Vance.

‘All we can do is show up and put in a good performance, and if we can put in a display anywhere near the one last week we’ll be happy.

‘We’re certainly progressing, we just need to get the points that we deserve now, but as we saw last week anything can happen in football – we can dominate a game and have 21 shots on goal compared to their four but it does not guarantee a win.

‘I am not 100% sure on the squad just yet, but I do not think we’re missing anyone from last week, and we will be even stronger with Jamie Dodd and Sam Murray both coming back in.

‘We have some big games coming up so having the numbers is going to be really important to get us through them.’
