Grouville have got off to a good start in the Jersey top-flight this season, having won all five of their league games.

‘They’re top of the league and have been scoring a shed-load of goals, and not conceding many, so we know it will be tough, but you never know quite what to expect in these games,’ said Gillease.

Gillease added that his club enjoyed taking on Jersey teams and are through to a Wheway semi-final.

‘I’m looking forward to it, it’s always a big occasion when we play Jersey teams, and I think we have a good chance,’ he said. ‘The gap between Guernsey and Jersey teams is closing and Guernsey teams are now much more competitive.

‘In the Guernsey league we play the same teams over and over, so it’s nice to have a different opposition and against Jersey teams the players really look forward to the games and really relish it – it feels really different, like there is more riding on it.’

The last time Rovers hosted a Jersey side at Port Soif in the Jeremie Cup they were beaten in extra time by St Clement.

‘Twice now when we have welcomed Jersey sides, it has gone to extra time and we lost out after a good performance, so it will be good to change that this time,’ said Gillease.

Sylvans also have a Jeremie Cup quarter-final tomorrow against St Clement at St Peter’s. Both ties kick off at 12.30pm.

In this weekend’s only FNB Priaulx League game, St Martin’s go to St Andrew’s to face Rangers at 2pm tomorrow.
