The Green Lions had to fight back from going a goal down to Bedfont Sports on Saturday at Victoria Park to earn a replay as Ross Allen scored the equaliser in a 1-1 draw and although, at the time of writing, GFC were waiting on confirmation of exactly when the tie will be completed, it is likely to be tomorrow.
‘Obviously, we could have done without it, if I’m honest, but it’s a game, so we can treat this as a pre-season game – it’s a very expensive pre-season game, but it is the FA Cup and obviously they’re going to want to beat us at their place,’ said GFC manager Tony Vance.
‘I’m not sure what bodies we’ll have because definitely the fatigue will be there because of the conditions, so we’re going to have to sort of juggle things around for sure. But I haven’t got a problem with that because we’ve got a good group now.
‘Probably the issue is, if it is Tuesday, we’ve got a development game that night, so we’ll have to have to put two sides out in one night, which is fine. That’s kind of what we want to do.’
The Green Lions understandably looked rusty in a goalless first half, but improved after the break, which is when the majority of the game’s chances were created.
Jude Jakes-McKay broke the deadlock for the visitors before Allen turned home Brandon Wallace’s cross five minutes later for a result Vance called ‘probably fair’.
‘Obviously it’s nice to not get beat,’ he said.
‘I thought first half, we didn’t adjust well enough to their shape and the shape that we’re trying to do, so we didn’t react enough on the pitch. I could see what we needed to happen, but I just didn’t think I could get the instructions across enough, so it was a case of trying to hang on and it affected our performance, to be honest.
‘They had a couple of chances, we still had some chances first half, probably you could say more than them, but they were the better team.
‘We got in at half-time, changed it and I thought we looked better.
‘In the dressing room before the game I said our finishing team are going to be the ones that are going to really help us this year and I think it proved today – the changes were really good.
‘Our deliveries weren’t great today, although when the finishing team came on, they were a lot better and I thought Cal [Le Lacheur] was lively and Faz [Will Fazakerley] did well and our crossing got better there.
‘It was a great ball by Brandon for the goal and Ross just keeps writing different pages of history, doesn’t he?’
