T20I tri-series - Friday 29-Sunday 31 August (KGV)
The hosts, who are coming off the back of back-to-back 50-over wins over Papua New Guinea, have named a 15-strong squad for the weekend, including the return of all-rounder Matt Stokes.
‘Four games against Switzerland and Finland – I think all the guys are really motivated to come back and finish the season with four wins and play some other teams from around Europe that we typically don’t really get to play,’ said Guernsey captain Ollie Nightingale.
‘Obviously we slipped up against the Finns last summer – in the only game we have played against them – but thankfully still made it through the group stage of the tournament, so we know they will be dangerous.
‘As for the Swiss, they’re a bit of an unknown but they brought a good under-19 side over who challenged our lads as part of their tournament preparations last month.
‘As we look ahead to next year’s T20 sub-regional qualifier, it’s a good opportunity for players to step up but also finish this year on a high.
‘We have had a mixed summer with some stand out results so hopefully we give a good account of ourselves and finish with four wins.’
The series was put together by Guernsey men’s team manager Rob Thomson, who was grateful to the Swiss and Finnish cricket boards for getting behind it.
‘They add to the stellar list of sides we’ve hosted over the last couple of summers,’ he said.
‘There is nothing more exciting than playing international cricket on home soil and it really feels like the wider cricket community have embraced that too – I look forward to seeing strong support over the course of the three days.’
