Within a few moments of emphasising that he needs his Green Lions to keep winning to ensure a home play-off in the Southern Combination Premier Division, the Guernsey FC boss shrugged his shoulders and admitted, ‘good question – and I don’t know the answer’ when quizzed on how strong a squad he will be able to field away to Wick on Saturday as the fixture clashes with the Island representative squad’s Muratti Vase semi-final with Alderney.
Vance revealed that he was due to meet with Island manager Merris yesterday to go through their options ahead of the weekend and also added that Charlton Gauvain and Jacques Cauvin will not be available.
‘They [the Island side] need time to prepare, so it’s over to Mez to decide what he wants,’ Vance said.
‘Unfortunately we’ve lost a couple to injuries in Charlton and Jacques and a couple of others who are injured at the moment, so there certainly aren't enough players to go around, but it’s important that he [Merris] gets the job done.
'I’ve always said that that’s the most important thing.
‘Obviously we can’t afford to lose because we’ve got teams chasing us down. It’s going to be a difficult one, but we’ve got a few youngsters that can hopefully get an opportunity.
‘We’ll see what Mez needs for Alderney, but yeah, it’s not going to be as easy [putting out two squads] as normal.
‘Between Mez and us, we’ll come up with some squads and I’m hopeful to see some of the players in the Priaulx who might get their opportunity if they want it as well. But we’ve now got a couple of people on the injury bench, which is not ideal.’
Alderney have already named their squad for Saturday’s clash with Muratti Vase holders Guernsey at Mount Hale.
