Sylvans battled in tough conditions on Saturday evening at Blanche Pierre Lane to claim the three points and stay in touching distance of the top of the table against a depleted St Martin’s who were missing a handful of players and had winger Isaac Eyton-Jones in goal.
‘I thought we did really well, it was tough conditions, windy, cold, but I thought we dealt with the wind in the first half particularly well. I am a little bit disappointed to see the goal we conceded in the first half and them coming even, but second-half we’ve used the conditions well,’ said Sylvans manager Dave Gilman.
Tiago Rodrigues netted a hat-trick to secure Sylvans the win, with George Goubert scoring for Saints in the first half.
‘Tiago has bagged himself a really good hat-trick,’ said Gilman.
‘I think it’s been a good team performance right from Joe [Wright] in goal – he’s come into the side and performed really well, defence played well and kept Saints pretty quiet for large spells of the game and we’ve worked really hard in midfield and up front. And it’s great to have people on the bench who can come on and do the job.’
In this weekend’s other Priaulx League games Vale Rec took all three points from their game against Rangers at the KGV after beating them 3-0 and Rovers beat Bels 6-1 at Port Soif with a hat-trick for Steffan Timms.
Guernsey FC had a difficult afternoon away at Southern Combination Premier Division runaway leaders Haywards Heath Town who beat them 6-1 on Saturday afternoon, Fin Patterson with the consolation goal.
The Green Lions have dropped to eighth in the table.
