Women’s coaches ‘need to get group back together’

Guernsey FC Women’s manager Anna Gauvain said she and her fellow coaches need to find a way to bring the group back together after a 4-1 loss to Bursledon on Sunday afternoon.

It was a disappointing result for the Green Lionesses, who were missing a few key players, but while Gauvain admitted it was not her side’s best performance, she said that they had to take the positives from the game.

‘Kellie Creed played her first 45 at home, so there’s stuff for her to look at and work on. Mollie [Watson] probably played her first 90 minutes at home, so there are youngsters coming through.

We just need to find a way to bring the group back together,’ she said.

‘We’ve got a tough test next weekend against Farnham so we’ll just have to chat about how we regroup, but actually I think individual errors lost this game in the end.

'Probably we were being a little bit more worried about the opposition when we should’ve probably been more focused on ourselves.’

The Green Lionesses found themselves trailing 2-0 at half-time. Substitute Codie Le Flem came on and fired in from distance to pull one back for the Lionesses before Bursledon added another two as the clock ticked towards full time.

‘Codie's been injured since the Farnham game, she’s only just come back to train a bit this week so I was pleased for her to get something,’ said Gauvain.

‘I think they worked hard, there were moments where we were creative, Heidi [Dawber] looked a threat when she moved position and went up front.

‘It was just one of those games where they all just had to battle on.’
