Maya Le Tissier and Alex Scott were the winners of the Guernsey Sports Commission Trophy as the outstanding performers of the year, having been members of the successful England Lionesses and England U21s squads at their respective Euros in Switzerland and Slovakia.
It is the first time in 23 years of the award that it has been presented jointly.
Le Tissier also went on to become Guernsey’s most capped senior England international, having now surpassed namesake Matt, while captaining Manchester United into the Uefa Women’s Champions League main stage for the first time in the club’s history, and smashing the record for most consecutive starts in the Women’s Super League.
‘I’m very grateful and it’s great to win it alongside Alex as well,’ she said via a video shown to the audience at Beau Sejour at the awards evening which had been delayed 24 hours by Storm Goretti.
‘It’s a big year this year, I’m very excited to continue with United, try and climb up the table as much as we can and play a lot with England.’
Midfield star Scott started five of England’s six games at the U21 Euros, including the final against Germany, who he had scored against during the group stage.
He has also became a regular starter for AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League, which led to him being called up to the England senior squad by Thomas Tuchel in November.
‘I’m really happy to win this award jointly with Maya,’ Scott said.
‘She has had an amazing year as well, of course, winning the Euros and doing so well for Man United in club football.
‘Obviously for myself, winning the [u21] Euros with England and getting my first senior call-up, it’s been an amazing year that I’m never going to forget.
‘I want to say a massive thank you to my family for always supporting me, being at every game when they can and travelling around the world to support me.
‘I’m looking forward to the new year and hopefully more, better things to come. Fingers crossed it’s going to be a great 2026 for me, Maya and everyone else involved.’
Guernsey Football Association director of football Tony Vance called the winner pair ‘inspirational’.
‘When you take a step back, it’s incredible what they have achieved where they have come from,’ he said.
‘St Martin’s should be very proud of the part they played in their development – they were the foundation of that.
‘It was perhaps harder for Maya because the women’s game [locally] did not have that pathway once she got beyond 16 as she could not play senior football here. Alex, after he had come back from academy football, had the second bite of the cherry with GFC and went from there, but football is very competitive.
‘It is so rewarding to see them get to the heights they have got to – though this island continues to churn out world and national stars in all sports in spite of our size – and they are still very much Guernsey people at heart and they enjoy coming back here.
‘The last huge football star we had was Matt Le Tissier in terms of the level he got to, but now I’m involved in grassroots football and I see young kids playing who want to be pros, Alex and Maya have made it real for them – they have shown it can happen and have inspired others.
‘They deserve all the accolades that they get.’
